“My faithfulness and my steadfast love shall be with him, and in my name shall his horn be exalted. I will set his hand on the sea and his right hand on the rivers. He shall cry to me, 'You are my Father, my GOD, and the Rock of my salvation.' And I will make him the firstborn, the highest of the kings of the earth. My steadfast love I will keep for him forever, and my covenant will stand firm for him. I will establish his offspring forever and his throne as the days of the heavens. If his children forsake my law and do not walk according to my rules, if they violate my statutes and do not keep my commandments, then I will punish their transgression with the rod and their iniquity with stripes, but I will not remove from him my steadfast love or be false to my faithfulness.”
We learn that in Psalm 89 the importance that GOD Almighty is giving the to the descendants of David. We know that this stems from the steadfast love of David for GOD Almighty and GOD Almighty's steadfast love for David. We learn that when we walk closer to GOD Almighty, GOD Almighty walks closer to us. If non believers forsake GOD Almighty, GOD Almighty forsakes non believers. We learn that because of David's immense love for GOD Almighty, GOD Almighty gives David immeasurable blessings similar to the blessings GOD Almighty gives to Abraham and Moses.
Initially, David wanted to fulfill the purpose of GOD Almighty by serving GOD Almighty in the form that GOD Almighty had decided. David fights the giant and continues to help Israel against the hostile nations that are surrounding Israel. We learn that David's love for GOD Almighty is so great that he begins to be persecuted for righteousness' sake. We learn that while he has difficulties, David is able to pray to GOD Almighty and request help from GOD Almighty, and GOD Almighty is able to destroy the adversaries of David. We know that David is able to continue fighting the enemies of Israel and is able to unify the people of Israel throughout his interactions with the people.
This talks about GOD Almighty's timing to bring about the king that would unify the nation of Israel. While the people had wanted a king to be like the nations, the intentions were not pure. They wanted to emulate systems that were not congruent to GOD Almighty's blessings. For this, Saul is a rash king symbolizing the rashness of the people to be like the nations. We learn that through David, we see the righteousness, faith, and obedience that is able to change not only history but the world. We see that David has patience and endures persecution so much so that he spares Saul on two occasions for David's respect for GOD Almighty.
We learn that through this righteousness, GOD Almighty sees the difficulties of David and destroys his adversaries. When David is able to become a king, we learn that the people of Israel are unified and know that David is a man of the people. This is the king that GOD Almighty wanted to people of Israel to have. For this reason, David serves as a predecessor to the ultimate King of kings, King Jesus Christ who also serves through enduring tribulation, unfair treatment, and difficulties while glorifying GOD Almighty. We learn that King Jesus Christ is able to be the everlasting king that was prophesied through Jacob and Nathan. We learn that King Jesus Christ fulfills the similar characteristics and qualities that David had among the miracles and wonders that King Jesus Christ was able to accomplish while restraining his authority to obey GOD Almighty.
For this, David is able to help bring about the Messiah King Jesus Christ. For this, the descendants of David would be kings. For this, those kings were going to be given grace and steadfast love for the sake of David. If they sinned, there was going to be mercy from GOD Almighty. They would be able to atone for their transgression and be forgiven. We see this in the tribe of Judah after the splitting of the kingdom under Solomon. They are given grace and allowed to continue having kings in Judah until they go after idolatry and are exiled in the time of Jeremiah. The exile is reproof and disciple. Yet, they are allowed back to their land when they repent. Since no king was blameless, King Jesus Christ is sent to be the everlasting king to the kingdom of Judah and Israel.
