Episode: “Abraham, David, and King Jesus Christ's Genealogy”
Introduction
Good afternoon! My name is Eduardo. This is Resurrection Radio Podcast. I am your presenter. We spoke of the timeline of Israel from the time of Moses to the time of the Judges and Samuel. I think Samuel is considered the last judge. After Samuel, we know the story of Saul, David, and Solomon, the kings of unified Israel that would be able to provide for the people the stability and peace for the people to have.
The Promises of GOD Almighty to David
When they were worshiping GOD Almighty, they had peace, stability, understanding, wisdom, empathy, sovereignty, strength, dominion, and authority over the nations. Those were the promises that were made to Abraham. They were going to have everything when they were believing in GOD Almighty. We see those promises are fulfilled to David. Those promises exist when GOD Almighty promises to David that he is going to have kings under his lineage forever.
As long as those kings believe in GOD Almighty and believe in the commandments, statutes, rules, and Sabbaths of GOD Almighty, they are able to have everything. They continue to have thrones for David. That is extended over to Solomon. He is seen positively. He is the son of David. Solomon is given favor by GOD Almighty. Solomon has good instruction. GOD Almighty asks Solomon what He can provide to Solomon. Solomon asks for wisdom over everything.
The Idolatry of Solomon Leads to a Divided Kingdom
In the beginning days of Solomon, there is that understanding of the need to worship GOD Almighty. It was not until Solomon was old that Scripture say that his wives caused Solomon to go after the idols. Then Solomon had difficulties. That is the distinction. Initially, Solomon had that belief. That was when they had everything. Solomon commits idolatry when he is older. Solomon causes the kingdom to be divided.
Instead of being the unified kingdom of Israel, it becomes the northern ten tribes and the southern two tribes. The kingdom of Israel and the kingdom of Judah. That is that division that exists because of idolatry. GOD Almighty is letting us know that idolatry leads to difficulties like in the times of the Judges. Like in the time of the rebellion against Moses. Like in the time of Joshua when the people do not have faith in GOD Almighty. Like in the time of Samuel, when the people were committing idolatry and had lukewarm worship and the people were afflicted by the Philistines. We know that changes when Samuel instructs the people to forsake the idols.
When Israel forsakes the idols, Israel abounds. They have peace, they have the land, they have abundance, and they keep growing. One of the important things to remind ourselves is of the lineage of David. In 1 Chronicles, the lineage of Israel from Adam to Abraham, from Abraham to Jacob, and then the genealogy of David. This is very technical. It is a list of names of individuals that were able to continue. The lineage of Israel of Abraham through their specific time.
The Story of Ruth and David's Genealogy
Through David, there is the genealogy of David of the promises of GOD Almighty to Abraham and they extend to David. Those individuals that existed prove to the understanding that GOD Almighty was fulfilling His promise of allowing the nation of Israel to continue throughout history. The lineage from Abraham to Jacob and the lineage of David knowing that David is born from Jesse and his wife. The father of Jesse was Obed. Before that we learn about the story of Ruth.
The story of Ruth tells us of a story of difficulties that happen for Ruth. Ruth is not able to have her husband, but she marries another individual who takes care of Ruth. What happens, Ruth is the great-great grandmother of David. From that lineage, David is born. The lineage of Ruth is the lineage of not only David but the future Messiah. We learn that there are difficulties even for Ruth, but GOD Almighty shifts everything over because she believes in GOD Almighty. Ruth speaks of GOD Almighty being her protector even when all these difficulties are happening. Even through difficulties, GOD Almighty is protecting Ruth. GOD Almighty is able to provide. She is able to remarry and she has the manner that she is able to sustain herself even when those difficulties happen.
From the genealogy of Ruth is where David is born. King Jesus Christ is born from the lineage of David. We have that understanding of that genealogy. We learn of the genealogy of Adam, Seth, Enosh, Jenan, and Mahalalel but really we need to understand the lineage of Abraham to Jacob because Abraham had the promises of GOD Almighty. That is actually when that begins. Those promises begin. For Adam they were created but there was not the belief of Adam like there is the belief from Abraham to GOD Almighty. Abraham is given the covenant and promises of a future if he follows GOD Almighty's statutes.
The Genealogy of Abraham and Israel
“The sons of Abraham: Isaac, and Ishmael. These are their generations: the first-born of Ishmael, Nebaioth; then Kedar, and Adbeel, and Mibsam, Mishma, and Dumah, Massa, Hadad, and Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedem. These are the sons of Ishmael. And the sons of Keturah, Abraham’s concubine: she bore Zimran, and Jokshan, and Medan, and Midian, and Ishbak, and Shuah. And the sons of Jokshan: Sheba, and Dedan. And the sons of Midian: Ephah, and Epher, and Hanoch, and Abida, and Eldaah. All these were the sons of Keturah. And Abraham begot Isaac. The sons of Isaac: Esau, and Israel.”- 1 Chronicles 28-34
“The sons of Esau: Eliphaz, Reuel, and Jeush, and Jalam and Korah. The sons of Eliphaz: Teman, and Omar, Zephi, and Gatam, Kenaz, and Timna, and Amalek. The sons of Reuel: Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah.”- 1 Chronicles 1: 35-37
“And the sons of Seir: Lotan, and Shobal, and Zibeon, and Anah, and Dishon, and Ezer, and Dishan. the sons of Lotan: Hori, and Homam; and Timna was Lotan’s sister. The sons of Shobal: Alian, and Manahath, and Ebal, Shephi, and Onam. And the sons of Zibeon: Aiah, and Anah. The sons of Anah: Dishon. And the sons of Dishon: Hamran, and Eshban, and Ithran, and Cheran. The sons of Ezer: Bilhan, and Zaavan, Jaakan. The sons of Dishan: Uz, and Aran. And Now these are the kings that reigned in the land of Edom, before their reigned any king over the children of Israel: Bela the son of Beor; and the name of his city was Dinhabah. And Bela died, and Jobab the son of Zerah of Bozrah reigned in his stead. And Jobab died, and Husham of the land of the Temanites reigned in his stead. And Husham died, and Hadad the son of Bedad, who smote Midian in the field of Moab, reigned in his stead; and the name of his city was Avith. And Hadad died, and Samlah of Masrekah reigned in his stead. And Samlah died, and Shaul of Rehoboth by the River reigned in his stead. And Shaul died, and Baal-hanan the son of Achbor reigned in his stead. And Baal-hanan died, and Hadad reigned in his stead; and the name of his city was Pai; and his wife’s name was Mehetabel, the daughter of Matred, the daughter of Mezahab. And Hadad died. And the chiefs of Edom were: the chief of Timna, the chief of Alvah, the chief of Jetheth; the chief of Oholibamah, the chief of Elah, the chief of Pinon; the chief of Kenaz, the chief of Teman, the chief of Mibzar; the chief of Magdiel, the chief of Iram. These are the chiefs of Edom.”- 1 Chronicles 1: 43-53
“These are the sons of Israel: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun; 2 Dan, Joseph, and Benjamin, Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.”- 1 Chronicles 1: 1-2
Why is this important? Because we are reminded of the promises of GOD Almighty to Abraham saying that out of Abraham would be born two nations. We learn that through Isaac, the nation of Israel would be born and through Ishmael another nation would be born. Also, from Jacob was going to be Israel from Isaac and Jacob. From the Ishmaelites, another nation. Esau was going to be another nation. Esau and Jacob were the sons of Isaac. Out of Abraham and Sarah was born Isaac and Ishmael. Two nations. Those promises were completed. That is why that genealogy is read to understand that GOD Almighty had promised them that they were going to have a nation growing for them. That is what happens. GOD Almighty was going to give favor to Israel and even to the Ishmaelites they were going to have their necessities met and GOD Almighty would provide.
That is what we understand when Haggar is in the desert with Ishmael, and they leave from Abraham. GOD Almighty is able to tell them that everything was going to be okay. GOD Almighty was going to care for them. The other part is Israel is able to continue and they abound. That is when the twelve tribes of Israel begin to grow. The genealogy from Abraham is interesting and is part of the creation. There is that understanding of the promises of GOD Almighty to Abraham through the genealogy of Abraham.
The Genealogy of the Tribe of Judah from Judah to David
There are other nations that live in the Promised Land that do not believe in GOD Almighty. The emphasis is to pay attention to the things of GOD Almighty. We learn that the genealogy starts from Abraham to Jacob and then we learn about David. Not only the genealogy of them, but knowing that the genealogy proves to the promises of GOD Almight, and the continuation of the people of Israel.
“The sons of Judah: Er, and Onan, and Shelah; which three were born unto him of Bath-shua the Canaanitess. And Er, Judah’s first-born, was wicked in the sight of the LORD; and He slew him. And Tamar his daughter-in-law bore him Perez and Zerah. All the sons of Judah were five. The sons of Perez: Hezron, and Hamul. And the sons of Zerah: Zimri, and Ethan, and Heman, and Calcol, and Dara: five of them in all. And the sons of Carmi: Achar, the troubler of Israel, who committed a trespass concerning the devoted thing. And the sons of Ethan: Azariah. The sons also of Hezron, that were born unto him: Jerahmeel, and Ram, and Chelubai. And Ram begot Amminadab; and Amminadab begot Nahshon, prince of the children of Judah; and Nahshon begot Salma, and Salma begot Boaz; and Boaz begot Obed, and Obed begot Jesse; and Jesse begot his first-born Eliab, and Abinadab the second, and Shimea the third; Nethanel the fourth, Raddai the fifth; Ozem the sixth, David the seventh.”- 1 Chronicle 1: 3-15
There are other genealogies that we learn about, but we have to remind ourselves of the genealogy of David. Out of David are born the kings of Judah. Out of David we learn about the specific things that happen. David is the youngest and yet is chosen be the the king of Israel through the word of GOD Almighty to Samuel. We learn that David is the youngest of his brothers. When Samuel goes to see who is going to be the individual chosen by GOD Almighty, he asks if there is another individual. That individual is David. This tells us of the importance of meekness and contrite spirit, and GOD Almighty exalts those that are humble.
Jacob's Blessings and King Jesus Christ's Genealogy from David
It is import important to see the genealogy of Abraham to the Twelve Tribes and from the Twelve Tribes to David. Also we learn that there are genealogies for each tribe. There are other descendants and individuals from each tribe. This is consistent with the story of David and Solomon talking about the unified kingdom of Israel and everyone is worshiping GOD Almighty. We learn there are the twelve tribes and the tribe of Judah was given blessings from Jacob saying from there the scepter was not going to depart. The ruler's staff was not going to depart from the hand of Judah.
This is from the blessings of Jacob. This is a blessing and a prophecy from Jacob. David is from the root of Jesse. That is why King Jesus Christ is spoken as the root of Jesse. The root of Jesse was going to provide an individual who was going to help the people of Israel. He was going to help them, provide eternal life, protect them, give them the manner that they were going to return back to GOD Almighty and be reconciled back to GOD Almighty. We read this genealogy in the Book of Matthew about the genealogy of King Jesus Christ from Abraham to David, from David to the Chaldean exile, and then from the Chaldean exile to King Jesus Christ.
Something like that is telling us of King Jesus Christ fitting into the genealogy of David. This is not for the sake of looking at the genealogies but to pay attention to the promises that GOD Almighty had given to David. The promises of GOD Almighty that Abraham was going to birth two nations. We learn the Twelve Tribes from Jacob have their own genealogies. We know that this is very technical and there are so many different names.
At the same time, we are reminding ourselves for the sake of the main idea. The main idea is that GOD Almighty was going to provide offspring for Abraham. That offspring was going to be able to be favored, and they would be able to continue. We learn about this not only in the events, but in the genealogy telling us of the continuance of the tribe of Judah. David arises from the tribe of Judah. GOD Almighty loves David so much that GOD Almighty promises to David that from the house of David they were going to have kings forever. That is what happens. Abraham's promises happen. The promises to David happen. Up to the point of the genealogy of David, we learn he was the youngest of his brothers, and GOD Almighty decided for David to lead Israel.
The Book of Ruth also helps us understand about the genealogy of David. The difficulties that Ruth experienced and having faith and out of that genealogy David is born. There is a description of a genealogy that experiences difficulties, but GOD Almighty helps. We learn that if we continue to glorify GOD Almighty above everything, we can continue to have everything.
Worshiping GOD Almighty Above Everything Else
We can continue moving forward glorifying GOD Almighty, praising GOD Almighty, worshiping GOD Almighty. From the genealogies, there is that understanding of David. David fulfills the promises of Jacob from Genesis. King Jesus Christ fulfills those promises to Jacob from Genesis. King Jesus Christ is in that genealogy of David from the root of Jesse. That is why it is so important to remind ourselves of David, King Jesus Christ, and remaining righteous. We learn about the difficulties of David also. We are reminded of the importance of prayer. This is to persevere believing in GOD Almighty. The promise from GOD Almighty is:
“And I will make for you a name, like the name of the great ones of the earth. And I will appoint a place for my people Israel and will plant them, that they may dwell in their own place and be disturbed no more. And violent men shall waste them no more, as formerly, from the time that I appointed judges over my people Israel.”- 1 Chronicles 17: 8-10
This is GOD Almighty reminding David of the time of the judges and how David was raised up to help the people of Israel from the surrounding nations. The judges were appointed righteous individuals that were raised up to bring up salvation for the people of Israel. David can be considered similar because he is able to provide salvation for the people of Israel. Then we know ultimately that King Jesus Christ is the eternal judge, eternal prophet (greater than a prophet because He is the Son of GOD), eternal king, and eternal high priest. King Jesus Christ fulfills all of this.
“And I will subdue all your enemies. Moreover, I declare to you that the LORD will build you a house. When your days are fulfilled to walk with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, one of your own sons, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for me, and I will establish his throne forever. I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son. I will not take my steadfast love from him, as I took it from him who was before you, but I will confirm him in my house and in my kingdom forever.' In accordance with all these words, and in accordance with all this vision, Nathan spoke to David.'”- 1 Chronicles 17: 10-15
This is what GOD Almighty was speaking to David through the prophet Nathan. Telling again that GOD Almighty was being worshiped and given the honor, praise, and worship. GOD Almighty was blessing David. It was not David who was going to be building the temple, but Solomon was going to build the temple. King David was blessed in the manner that his sons would be kings and establish the kingdom. We learn about David's prayer how he prays and blesses GOD Almighty. This is telling us of a time when everything is working out because there is the worship of GOD Almighty. There is that need to worship GOD Almighty. What happens is that they are able to have everything in the manner that David goes through difficulty as king yet glorifies GOD Almighty. There are difficulties for David but is able to inherit the throne to Solomon. Everything is peaceful and works out.
This is because of the faith of David. So again when they know that Solomon is going to be king, David instructs and provides Solomon wisdom. They continue believing in GOD Almighty. This is based on the promise of GOD Almighty to David that his offspring would be kings and given favor but they had to believe. They had to continue believing in the faith to have those spiritual gifts, abundance, and the kingdom. We learn about visions or dreams where GOD Almighty asks Solomon what He can give to Solomon.
GOD Almighty Reminds Solomon of Obeying
the Commandments, Statutes, and Sabbaths
Initially
Solomon was doing good things until the later times when his wives
caused him to commit idolatry. Solomon begins having difficulties
when he begins to practice idolatry. We know that David prays and
asks for favor for Solomon. David was the reason why there was so
much favor in Israel. The favor goes to Solomon. Initially, Solomon
sees the example of David, and there are good things. Then at the end
when Solomon is older, the Scriptures state that his wives turned his
heart from worshiping GOD Almighty and to start practicing idolatry.
There was not wholehearted belief. There may be some belief, but he
was committing idolatry. He was not supposed to commit idolatry so
that the kingdom, temple, and peace would remain forever, unless he
turned and decided to commit idolatry and not obey the commandments, statutes, and Sabbaths
and that was when Israel was was going to be exiled from the Promised
Land and not have a king. We learn that GOD Almighty makes all things good and is able to have King Jesus Christ be the King of kings of the Tribe of Judah. We learn that the promises of Jacob to Judah are true.
There was that condition. GOD Almighty states that they were going to have good things as long as they continued to worship GOD Almighty. As soon as they decided to not worship GOD Almighty, have lukewarm faith, not worship GOD Almighty, or commit idolatry, or practice sins, there is no longer a unified Israel. That is what happens. The kingdom of Israel is divided into two parts. It is not Solomon who goes through that, it is the son of Solomon that goes through that because GOD Almighty loves David so much that Solomon does not see that happen.
It is the son of Solomon who sees the kingdom of Israel be divided into the kingdom of Israel and the kingdom of Judah. We learn that for the love of GOD Almighty for David, the son of Solomon is able to keep one kingdom. The southern kingdom is usually described as two tribes the tribe of Judah and the tribe of Benjamin. So again, it is that understanding that because of the love of GOD Almighty, they still have a king in Judah. The northern ten tribes are given to another individual. But then the northern tribes also commit idolatry so there is also difficulty.
David's Prayer of Thanksgiving
It is that constant understanding. Before all of this, before Solomon is able to be king and construct the temple, we know they were ready to construct the temple:
“Therefore David blessed the LORD in the presence of all the assembly. And David said: 'Blessed are you, O LORD, the GOD of Israel our father, forever and ever. Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours.”- 1 Chronicles 29: 10-11
There are those beautiful prayers that praise GOD Almighty over everything. We worship, praise, and glorify GOD Almighty over everything in this life. GOD Almighty is the Creator and the father of Israel. The father of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. GOD Almighty is the Creator of David and then again even King Jesus Christ is in the lineage of David from the genealogy that we read, GOD Almighty created David. GOD Almighty created everyone within Israel.
GOD Almighty creates King Jesus Christ in the Spirit of Truth, and Joseph is the father of King Jesus Christ from that genealogy of David. All of that makes sense. The power, the victory, the might, the wisdom, the understanding, the dominion, the sovereignty, the authority, and everything is from GOD Almighty. GOD Almighty created the heavens and the earth.
“Yours is the kingdom, O LORD, and you are exalted as head above all.”
GOD Almighty has everything. GOD Almighty has absolute control over everything.
“Both riches and honor come from you, and you rule over all.”
Everything that is good is from GOD Almighty. All of the good things of life, authority, dominion, sovereignty, strength, might, wisdom, understanding, peace, love, joy, rejoicing. All of that is from GOD Almighty. The love, peace, joy all those good things. And GOD Almighty rules over all. GOD Almighty has dominion over everything.
“In your hand are power and might, and in your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all. And now we thank you, our GOD, and praise your glorious name.”- 1 Chronicles 29: 11-13
David says that and understands that. In the Psalms we understand this and also in this prayer of thanksgiving. We know that GOD Almighty has authority, power, dominion, strength, might, wisdom, sovereignty, love, peace, joy, and that GOD Almighty can give specific characteristics or qualities. David was thanking GOD Almighty because there was peace at that time. We learn that they are going to start to offer offerings and have the temple begin being consecrated. They are going to have everything ready. David gives thanks to GOD Almighty. Solomon is in charge of everything, but David makes sure that everything is ready. This was so that everyone could worship GOD Almighty and see the greatness of GOD Almighty.
“But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able thus to offer willingly? For all things come from you, and of your own have we given you. For we are strangers before you and sojourners, as all our fathers were. Our days on the earth are like a shadow, and there is no abiding. O LORD our GOD, all his abundance that we have provided for building you a house for your holy name comes from your hand is all your own.”
This is a prayer that shows the humble heart of David. David is able to allow us to understand that the creation is of GOD Almighty, and GOD Almighty gives to individuals what GOD Almighty decides. We learn that David is acknowledging that GOD Almighty had given David the manner that they could build the temple. David knows that what he was given is of GOD Almighty because GOD Almighty created the creation and gives favor.
GOD Almighty is able to give good characteristics, qualities, or attributes and gives the Spirit of Truth. GOD Almighty gives good things and then it is up to us to decide what we do with that. We can choose to honor, worship, and praise GOD Almighty with what GOD Almighty gives us or we can choose to not honor, worship, and praise GOD Almighty with what GOD Almighty gives us. Here there is that understanding that they have everything to construct the temple, they have the divisions, the musicians, the leaders, the organizations, the specific distributions, there is still that understanding that all of this is of GOD Almighty.
Everything that GOD Almighty gives is of GOD Almighty. What they received or what they were having is for GOD Almighty because it was from GOD Almighty. This is the understanding that we have from Abel. Abel gives GOD Almighty the first fruits and the best because it is from GOD Almighty. If GOD Almighty gives us the best and gives us good things, we give GOD Almighty the best and give him good things. We praise GOD Almighty with what we do, our work, or our worship, or our praise. We worship GOD Almighty. There is that understanding like Abel, like Moses, like King Jesus Christ.
"I know, my GOD, that you test the heart and have pleasure in uprightness. In the uprightness of my heart, I have freely offered all these things, and now I have seen your people, who are present here, offering freely and joyously to you. O LORD, the GOD of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, our fathers, keep forever such purposes and thoughts in the hearts of your people, and direct their hearts toward you. Grant to Solomon my son a whole heart that he may keep your commandments, your testimonies, and your statutes, performing all, and that he may build the palace for which I have made provision.”- 1 Chronicles 29: 14-19

The purpose of this blog is the glorification of GOD Almighty, King Jesus Christ, and the Spirit of Truth. We are reminded in the Book of Revelation of the need to persist through faith in the end times of what we know. We are to have belief in the Scriptures. We are to have faith in King Jesus Christ who died on the cross and resurrected on the third day to give us eternal life and who provides the Spirit of Truth. We are able to glorify GOD Almighty above everything in this world. We are reminded in Revelation to not be a part of idolatry and not to take the technological modification.
