Episode: “Rehoboam's Kingdom, Necessary Faith, and Divided Israel”
Introduction

Good afternoon! My name is Eduardo. This is Resurrection Radio Podcast. I am your presenter. We spoke of the Book of 2 Chronicles which told us about the unified kingdom of Israel through Saul, David, and Solomon. Then we know that there is idolatry in Solomon's part when Solomon decides to build temples to the idols of Solomon's wives. What happens is that when Solomon passes on his kingdom to his son Rehoboam, Rehoboam sees the effects of the idolatry of Solomon. GOD Almighty states that He was angry for the idolatry that Solomon had done.
Rehoboam Has Difficulties With the Tribes of Israel
GOD Almighty was going to provide for one of the servants of Solomon to have the ten tribes of Israel. Rehoboam is able to have a kingdom. GOD Almighty provides grace because He gives the kingdom to the son of Solomon, not for Solomon's sake but for the sake of David. We learn that during the kingship of Saul there was no obedience to GOD Almighty because the people of Israel wanted a king like the nations. GOD Almighty gives the people of Israel a king like the nations. We see what happens with Saul. He is disobedient to GOD Almighty and does not follow the word of the prophet, does not follow the word of GOD Almighty, and does not believe as David does.
We learn that Saul is afflicted for all the evil that he does against David. David is then who GOD Almighty chooses to be their king. If the people had waited, they would have had David as their king. There was the righteous king, David. They are in haste and want to be like the nations. The people tell this to Samuel. GOD Almighty tells Samuel that this is not a rebellion against Samuel but a rebellion against GOD Almighty saying that they want to be like the nations. GOD Almighty gives them a king like the nations and we see what happens.
Initially that works
out, but then we learn that there are difficulties because of envy
and those negative emotions. We have to remind ourselves of those
examples that we place attention to the positive examples, joy,
peace, wisdom, authority, dominion, sovereignty, strength, might, all
those things that are from GOD Almighty instead of paying attention
to all those things that are not from GOD Almighty. Obviously,
jealousy and envy are not from GOD Almighty.
We do not pay attention to that. That is what Saul gives himself over to. We learn that the lineage of Saul does not continue. We know that there are examples of this in other verses of Scripture like Ahab who goes to idolatry and is not allowed to continue. We learn that happens also to Jeroboam because they implement idolatrous worship. Ahijah the Shilonite tells him that GOD Almighty was going to provide a house for him like David. They had to continue in the promises of GOD Almighty and continue believing the commandments, statutes, laws, and Sabbaths in order to continue having the promises of GOD Almighty.
The Promises of GOD Almighty are True

We know that the word of GOD Almighty is eternal. What GOD Almighty promises from His part is true. GOD Almighty fulfills those promises. The promises of GOD Almighty to Abraham continue into the time of the divided kingdom of Israel. We know that GOD Almighty is graceful and still provides. Rehoboam still has a kingdom because GOD Almighty provides one tribe to be the kingdom of Solomon's son. Benjamin is with Judah so there are two tribes that make up the kingdom of Judah.
Rehoboam begins to have difficulties because the people are resentful during Solomon's time because of the labor in constructing the temple and the house of Solomon. The people had to labor. We do know for some part they were seeing the good things and in another part they were growing resentful. The people wanted a lighter yoke. The people of Israel wanted Rehoboam to provide either monetarily or in terms of labor, a lighter yoke. Scripture states:
“And Rehoboam went to Shechem; for all Israel were come to Shechem to make him king. And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard of it—for he was in Egypt, whither he had fled from the presence of king Solomon—that Jeroboam returned out of Egypt. And they sent and called him; and Jeroboam and all Israel came, and they spoke to Rehoboam, saying: Thy father made our yoke grievous; now therefore make thou the grievous service of thy father, and his heavy yoke which he put upon us, lighter, and we will serve thee.’ And he said unto them: ‘Come again unto me after three days.’ And the people departed.”- 2 Chronicles 10: 1-5
The Kingdom of Rehoboam is Divided
The people were going to Rehoboam to either have a lighter yoke on the labor or the monetary aspect. This is because there was specific construction that was happening at the time of king Solomon. The people wanted a lighter yoke because they thought there was difficulty because of idolatry. When we read about the adversaries that are raised up, we read about Jeroboam and there were two other individuals because of the sin of idolatry from Solomon. The difficulties created by idolatry worship. We see that happens. We see the kingdom is going to be divided because of idolatry, and we see that. Jeroboam is going to get ten tribes and Rehoboam gets two tribes. The people want a lighter yoke and not the difficulties they had because of Solomon. This was because of the idolatry of Solomon.
The kingdom was going to be divided and the kingdom was divided.
“And king Rehoboam took counsel with the old men, that had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying: ‘What counsel give ye me to return answer to this people?’ And they spoke unto him, saying: ‘If thou be kind to this people, and please them, and speak good words to them, then they will be thy servants for ever.’ But he forsook the counsel of the old men which they had given him, and took counsel with the young men that were grown up with him, that stood before him. And he said unto them: ‘What counsel give ye, that we may return answer to this people, who have spoken to me, saying: Make the yoke that thy father did put upon us lighter?’ And the young men that were grown up with him spoke unto him, saying: ‘Thus shalt thou say unto the people that spoke unto thee, saying: Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it lighter unto us; thus shalt thou say unto them: My little finger is thicker than my father’s loins. And now whereas my father did lade you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke; my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.’”- 2 Chronicles 10: 6-11
There was the option of following the counsel of the wise men who wanted for the people to be listened to. The people had difficulties and were voicing their complaint. The young individuals who had grown up with Rehoboam were not giving him the correct counsel or the wise counsel. Rehoboam listens to the young individuals and decides that he was not going to listen to the people. The people rebel against Rehoboam, and we see the split of the kingdom. This is what GOD Almighty had decided. The circumstances of what GOD Almighty had stated. We learn that this does not happen during the time of Solomon, but happens in the time of Rehoboam.
“So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king bade, saying: ‘Come to me again the third day.’ And the king answered them roughly; and king Rehoboam forsook the counsel of the old men, and spoke to them after the counsel of the young men, saying: ‘My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add thereto; my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.’ So the king hearkened not unto the people; for it was brought about of God, that the LORD might establish His word, which He spoke by the hand of Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.”- 2 Chronicles 10: 12-15
We know that this is what GOD Almighty had decided for. We learn that Rehoboam was going to see the effects of the idolatry of Solomon, and that is what happens. We know that the house of Israel rebels against the house of Judah. They no longer want to follow the house of David because of Rehoboam's response.
“And when all Israel [saw] that the king hearkened not unto them, the people answered the king, saying: ‘What portion have we in David? neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse; every man to your tents, O Israel; now see to thine own house, David.’ So all Israel departed unto their tents. But as for the children of Israel that dwelt in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them. king Rehoboam sent Hadoram, who was over the levy; and the children of Israel stoned him with stones, so that he died. And king Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem. So Israel rebelled against the house of David unto this day.”- 2 Chronicles 10: 16-19
So there is that understanding that at the time of Rehoboam there were those who are followers of king Rehoboam and in the kingdom of Judah and the ten tribes being given to Jeroboam. There are two kings at this specific time. This is what we see happen until the Assyrian scattering for Israel for the northern ten tribes which happens earlier. Then there is the Chaldean exile for the kingdom of Judah when they go into the Chaldean exile and then they return back. After the Chaldean exile, they return back and then there is the Roman scattering because of idolatry. GOD Almighty stated that was what was going to happen, and we learn that is what happens.
There are difficulties that exist for the people and Rehoboam does not want to listen to the people. GOD Almighty decides for this to happen and that is why Rehoboam answers the way he does. We know that GOD Almighty stated through the seer and prophet Ajijah the Shilonite was able to provide the truth. That truth was that the people were going to rebel against Rehoboam and there was going to be two kingdoms within the same nation.

The purpose of this blog is the glorification of GOD Almighty, King Jesus Christ, and the Spirit of Truth. We are reminded in the Book of Revelation of the need to persist through faith in the end times of what we know. We are to have belief in the Scriptures. We are to have faith in King Jesus Christ who died on the cross and resurrected on the third day to give us eternal life and who provides the Spirit of Truth. We are able to glorify GOD Almighty above everything in this world. We are reminded in Revelation to not be a part of idolatry and not to take the technological modification.
